The right winger possessed an electric turn of pace and powerful right-footed shot. He was the 98th player to represent Australia, which he did on five occasions between 1947 and 1955, scoring three goals.
Stewart's defining contribution to the green and gold came during the Socceroos’ three game series against New Zealand on home soil in 1954.
Having lost the first match to the All Whites, Stewart scored a brace in a man-of-the-match performance in Game 2 to help square the ledger. He backed up the effort, again finding the back of the net in the decider as the Aussies clinched the series with a 4-1 win in Sydney.
Stewart played his club football for Woonona-Bulli in the NSW State League from 1943-1959, making his Senior debut at just 15 years of age and going on to make 393 appearances, scoring 234 goals. He later coached the Senior team to the title in 1960 and was made a life member of Woonona Football Club.
During the club's 114 year celebrations in 2003 Stewart was named in Woonona's Legends Team and voted the Clubman of the Century.
Charlie sadly passed away in July 2014.
